As a professional aluminum slugs manufacturer, we focus on providing global customers with high-precision, high-performance aluminum slugs, essential core materials in impact extrusion processes. In particular, 1070 aluminum slugs, an aluminum alloy with excellent physical and chemical properties, superior plasticity and processing performance, are widely used in the manufacture of impact extruded containers, cans, and tubes, becoming the preferred raw material for food packaging cans, pharmaceutical ointment tubes, and industrial containers.

The core of impact extrusion is to use a punch to impact the aluminum slugs blank at high speed, causing plastic deformation within the die cavity. This places stringent requirements on the material uniformity and impurity control precision of the aluminum slugs—1070 aluminum is precisely the “golden material” designed for this purpose.
- Processing advantages of high purity
The aluminum content of 1070 aluminum alloy is no less than 99.7%. This high purity fundamentally ensures low impurity content in the material—the total amount of harmful impurities such as iron and silicon is controlled within 0.3%. In actual production, we have found that low impurity content effectively reduces die wear during impact extrusion: compared to 1100 series aluminum with higher impurity content, using 1070 aluminum slugs increases the die cutting edge life by 20%-30%, while avoiding defects such as pinholes and scratches on the container wall caused by impurity particles, resulting in a stable finished product qualification rate of over 99.5%.
- Excellent plasticity and deformation coordination
During impact extrusion, aluminum slugs need to complete the morphological transformation from “block” to “thin-walled tubular” within milliseconds. The elongation and reduction of area of the material directly determine the forming effect. Our 1070 aluminum slugs, after homogenization annealing, achieve an elongation of over 35% and a reduction of area exceeding 70%, far higher than ordinary industrial aluminum. When manufacturing small ointment tubes with a wall thickness of 0.2-0.5mm, this high plasticity ensures uniform material flow along the inner wall of the mold, avoiding uneven wall thickness or cracking, making it particularly suitable for precision container molding with a diameter less than 20mm.
- Stable physicochemical properties and subsequent adaptability
1070 aluminum has a high thermal conductivity of 226W/(m·K). During the annealing process after impact extrusion, heat can be transferred quickly and evenly, allowing for full release of internal stress in the container blank and preventing deformation during subsequent cutting and edge rolling. Simultaneously, its surface oxide film is dense and stable, meeting food contact grade requirements (compliant with GB 4806.1-2016 standard) after passivation treatment. It is also directly compatible with surface treatment processes such as spraying and printing, with coating adhesion 15% higher than ordinary aluminum, making it particularly suitable for high-end packaging needs such as cosmetics and food additives.
Leveraging the material properties of 1070 aluminum and our process control capabilities, the aluminum slugs for impact extrusion have been widely used in the manufacture of three main categories of small containers, and their performance advantages have been fully validated in practical applications.
- Food and pharmaceutical packaging Cans:
In the field of small food packaging such as chewing gum jars and mint jars, 1070 aluminum slugs, after impact extrusion molding, have smooth, burr-free inner walls, allowing direct contact with food. Their excellent ductility enables a “rolled-edge sealing” process; when used with sealant, the leakage rate is less than 0.01%/24h, effectively extending the shelf life of food. In the pharmaceutical packaging field, our 1070 aluminum slugs have passed the biocompatibility test for pharmaceutical-grade aluminum substrates and can be used to manufacture capsule shell packaging cans, ointment jars, etc., meeting the stringent standards of the pharmaceutical industry.
- Cosmetic tubes:
Cosmetic tubes (such as eye cream tubes and lip gloss tubes) typically require small diameters (φ10-φ15mm), uniform wall thickness (0.3-0.4mm), and excellent print adhesion. The high plasticity of 1070 aluminum slugs ensures wrinkle-free tube molding, with wall thickness errors controlled within ±0.03mm. After passivation treatment, they can be directly UV printed or hot stamped, achieving 4B-level pattern adhesion (GB/T 9286-1998), meeting the high-end appearance requirements of cosmetic packaging. Currently, we provide customized aluminum slugs to several well-known domestic cosmetic companies, with a monthly supply exceeding 5 million pieces.
- Small industrial containers:
In industrial applications such as small lubricating oil tanks and paint sampling containers, containers formed from 1070 aluminum slugs exhibit a certain degree of corrosion resistance, withstanding mild oily media erosion. After low-temperature annealing, the tensile strength of the containers can reach over 75 MPa, meeting the pressure resistance requirements during handling. Compared to stainless steel, aluminum containers are 40% lighter and 30% less expensive, making them the mainstream choice for small industrial containers.
1070 aluminum slugs, with their high purity, excellent plastic deformation capacity, and controllable mechanical properties, have become an ideal material for impact extrusion processes. We are committed to continuously improving our production processes and enhancing product quality to meet the diverse needs of our customers in the fields of containers, cans, and tubes.
